An explosion at a cafe in the heart of the Syrian capital has killed at least six people, the latest jolt to a country still trying to find its footing after more than a decade of war and the collapse of its long-ruling government.

## What happened

The blast struck a cafe in central Damascus on Thursday afternoon, near the Palace of Justice, the capital's main courthouse. Syrian state media and the Interior Ministry confirmed the explosion, which local reports described as a planted explosive device.
