# Josh Gad Joins Bradley Cooper and Margot Robbie in the Ocean's Prequel

Josh Gad is the latest name to join Warner Bros.' 1960s-set 'Ocean's' prequel, adding a comic presence to an ensemble led by Margot Robbie and Bradley Cooper, who is also directing.

The ensemble for Hollywood's next big heist picture keeps growing.

## The casting

Josh Gad has joined Warner Bros.' untitled "Ocean's" prequel, [Variety reported](https://variety.com/2026/film/news/margot-robbie-bradley-cooper-oceans-prequel-josh-gad-1236799715/), adding to a cast headlined by Margot Robbie and Bradley Cooper. Gad — the voice of Olaf in Disney's "Frozen" films and a Tony-nominated star of "The Book of Mormon" — brings a broad comic energy to the group. His role has not been disclosed.

## The film

The movie is a prequel to Steven Soderbergh's 2001 hit "Ocean's Eleven," and is expected to be set in 1960s Europe, a fitting backdrop for the franchise's blend of style and misdirection. Warner Bros. has dated it for June 25, 2027, [according to Collider](https://collider.com/margot-robbie-oceans-eleven-prequel-new-director-confirmed-bradley-cooper-release-date-june-25-2027/).

Cooper is not only starring but writing and directing, having taken the reins after the film's original director, "Minari" and "Twisters" filmmaker Lee Isaac Chung, exited early in 2026 over creative differences. It marks Cooper's second feature as director, after his 2018 debut "A Star Is Born." Robbie stars and produces through her LuckyChap Entertainment banner, with a screenplay credited to Carrie Solomon.

## A crew still forming

The rest of the lineup has been coming together quickly. Monica Barbaro, of "Top Gun: Maverick," has been set for a co-starring role, [Deadline reported](https://deadline.com/2026/06/oceans-prequel-wagner-moura-1236958504/), and Wagner Moura, of "Narcos," is in talks to play the villain. In the "Ocean's" tradition, where every member of the crew has a particular specialty, Gad's addition leaves fans to guess what part he'll play in the con.
