# Krispy Kreme marks 89 years with 89-cent dozens on Friday

Krispy Kreme is turning 89, and it is marking the occasion the way it likes to: with cheap doughnuts. On Friday, July 17, customers who buy one dozen at the regular price can add a second dozen of Original Glazed for 89 cents at participating shops.

There are worse ways to celebrate a birthday than by giving away doughnuts, and Krispy Kreme has made it something of a tradition. To mark its 89th anniversary, the chain is [selling a dozen Original Glazed for 89 cents](https://ca.finance.yahoo.com/news/krispy-kreme-celebrates-89th-birthday-170000004.html) on Friday, July 17, with the purchase of another dozen at the regular price.

## The fine print

The deal is a one-day affair. At shops and drive-thrus, customers can pick up [as many as two of the 89-cent dozens per visit](https://www.alaskasnewssource.com/2026/07/16/heres-how-you-can-get-dozen-donuts-krispy-kreme-89-cents/); orders placed through the app or website for pickup or delivery are limited to one discounted dozen. As always with these promotions, the offer is good at participating locations, so it is worth checking the nearest shop before making a special trip.

## A number that keeps changing

The 89-cent price is a bit of birthday math: Krispy Kreme ties the discount to the age it is turning, which means the deal gets marginally cheaper the older the company gets. It was 88 cents last year, and, presumably, will be 90 cents next.

## From one shop to many

The company has come a long way from its origins. Krispy Kreme was founded in 1937, when Vernon Rudolph opened a shop in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, and began selling to local grocery stores before curious passersby, drawn by the smell, pushed him to sell hot doughnuts straight to the public. That hot-off-the-line Original Glazed became the product the brand was built on, and the company now operates in dozens of countries. For one day, at least, a box of them will cost less than a dollar, which, in a summer of stubborn grocery prices, is its own small cause for celebration.
