# One Killed, Six Wounded in Shooting at Carson Street Takeover

Gunfire at an illegal street takeover in Carson killed one person and wounded six others early Sunday, including a teenager, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said. No arrests have been made.

A shooting at an illegal street takeover in Carson left one man dead and six other people wounded early Sunday, authorities said, in the latest burst of violence tied to the takeovers that have spread across Southern California.

## What deputies found

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said deputies were called to the area of Harmon Avenue and Charles Willard Street around 3 a.m. Sunday and found multiple gunshot victims, [CBS Los Angeles reported](https://www.cbsnews.com/losangeles/news/shooting-carson-street-takeover/). One man was pronounced dead at the scene. Two people who were critically wounded were taken to a hospital by ambulance, and four others got themselves to hospitals on their own — accounting for an initial, lower count of injured in early reports, [according to ABC7](https://abc7.com/post/1-killed-2-injured-triple-shooting-during-carson-street-takeover-authorities-say/19404367/).

In all, seven people were shot, one of them fatally, [NBC Los Angeles reported](https://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/local/carson-street-takeover-shooting/3910297/). At least one of the wounded is 16 years old, authorities said, though it was not clear whether the teenager was among the two listed in critical condition.

## A takeover turned deadly

Deputies said the gunfire broke out during a street takeover — the now-familiar scenes in which drivers block an intersection to perform stunts as crowds gather to watch. The events have become a recurring public-safety problem across Los Angeles County, and they routinely draw large numbers of spectators, complicating the work of investigators afterward.

The circumstances of the shooting — including who opened fire and why — have not been established. Authorities said they were urging anyone who attended the takeover to come forward, given how many people were present.

## What's unknown

As of Sunday, the Sheriff's Department had not released the identity of the man killed, pending notification of his family, and had announced no arrests or suspect description. A motive remains unknown, as does whether the shooter was a participant in the takeover or a bystander.

Anyone with information has been asked to contact the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department. This is a developing story.
