# Postal Service issues a Declaration of Independence stamp for America's 250th

The U.S. Postal Service marked the country's 250th birthday on July 4 by issuing a new Declaration of Independence Forever stamp, dedicating it at a first-day ceremony in Philadelphia, blocks from where the document was signed in 1776.

Amid the parades and fireworks of the country's 250th Fourth of July, the U.S. Postal Service added a quieter commemoration on Saturday: a new stamp honoring the document that started it all.

## A stamp for the semiquincentennial

The Postal Service issued a Declaration of Independence Forever stamp, sold in panes of 20, [according to a USPS announcement](https://about.usps.com/newsroom/national-releases/2026/0608ma-declaration-of-independence-to-be-honored-with-new-stamp.htm). As a Forever stamp, it will always cover the current price of a one-ounce First-Class letter regardless of future rate changes.

The design leans on the year rather than the parchment. The numerals of "1776" are styled to evoke the quill pens used to sign the Declaration, set in red, white and blue, [as Newsweek described the artwork](https://www.newsweek.com/usps-unveils-america-250-stamps-how-you-can-get-them-12052682). The stamp is one of several items the Postal Service has released to mark the anniversary.

## A first-day ceremony in Philadelphia

The Postal Service dedicated the stamp at a first-day-of-issue ceremony on the morning of July 4 at the B. Free Franklin Post Office at 316 Market Street in Philadelphia, [the agency said](https://about.usps.com/newsroom/national-releases/2026/0608ma-declaration-of-independence-to-be-honored-with-new-stamp.htm). The location carries its own history: it sits a short walk from Independence Hall, where the Continental Congress adopted the Declaration in 1776, and it honors Benjamin Franklin, the nation's first postmaster general. The event was free and open to the public.

## How to get one

The stamps are available through the Postal Store at usps.com, by phone at 844-737-7826, by mail through the USA Philatelic catalog, and at Post Office locations nationwide. Collectors can also find them through the Postal Service's officially licensed collection.

For a milestone that has drawn everything from tall-ship parades to stadium concerts, the stamp is a modest keepsake. But it is a durable one, meant to travel through the mail long after the anniversary's fireworks have faded.
