# Woman Killed, Five Hurt After a Tesla Crashes Into a Simi Valley Cafe

A woman was killed and five other people were injured Monday afternoon when a Tesla jumped a curb and crashed into the Urbane Cafe in Simi Valley, the Simi Valley Police Department said. The cause is under investigation.

A routine afternoon at a Simi Valley shopping center turned deadly when a car crashed into a busy cafe.

## What happened

The crash was reported around 2:30 p.m. Monday near the intersection of Madera Road and Strathearn Place, where the Urbane Cafe sits in a shopping center, [ABC7 reported](https://abc7.com/post/simi-valley-crash-1-killed-5-injured-car-slams-urbane-cafe-restaurant/19416545/). A white Tesla drove over the curb and into the restaurant, striking people at or near the outdoor seating area, the Simi Valley Police Department said. Six people in all were hit.

## The toll

A woman died from her injuries; her identity was withheld pending notification of her family. Four of the five survivors were taken to a hospital with injuries described as minor, [NBC Los Angeles reported](https://www.nbclosangeles.com/news/local/woman-killed-others-hurt-after-tesla-crashes-into-simi-valley-cafe/3910811/), and the condition of the remaining person was not immediately confirmed. The driver, described by police as a woman, was also hospitalized; her condition was not released.

## The investigation

No arrests had been announced as of Monday evening, and police had not identified the driver or said whether charges would be filed. The cause of the crash remains under investigation, and authorities did not speculate publicly on what led the car to leave the roadway. Ventura County Fire Department crews and Simi Valley police responded to the scene, where aerial footage showed heavy damage to the restaurant's front. Investigators asked anyone with information or video to contact the Simi Valley Police Department.
