Cookie Policy
Updated June 20, 2026
Cookies are small text files saved to your device when you use a website. We use cookies and similar technologies to run the service, measure traffic, and serve advertising. Here we explain which cookies we use and how you can manage them.
Consent
Strictly necessary cookies are always on, because the service won't work without them; they don't require consent. Non-essential cookies — analytics and advertising — are enabled only if you give your consent. We ask for that consent through a cookie notice when you arrive. You can withdraw or change your consent at any time in the cookie settings below.
Cookie categories
1. Strictly necessary cookies
These keep you signed in (session data), protect forms from abuse, remember your cookie choices, and ensure the basic operation and security of the service. They include Los Angeles Herald's own session and preference cookies as well as the security and operational cookies of our web infrastructure provider Cloudflare.
2. Analytics cookies (with consent)
These help us understand how the service is used so we can improve it. We use the analytics tool PostHog, which collects, for example, the pages you view, the referring page, your approximate location, and your device and browser type. We do not use this data for advertising targeted at you.
3. Advertising cookies (with consent)
These make it possible to show ads and to measure how they perform. We use Google's advertising network (Google Ads). Google and its partners may set cookies and read device identifiers to select ads and measure their effectiveness, and advertising may be personalized. Learn more: Google's ad privacy information.
How long your choice lasts
Some cookies are session-based and disappear when you close your browser; others stay on your device longer (for example, to remember your sign-in and your cookie choice). Analytics and advertising cookies are set only after you have given your consent.
Cookie settings and control
- You can change your consent at any time through the service's cookie notice.
- You can also manage and delete cookies in your browser settings, and block new cookies. Instructions are on your browser's help pages.
- You can manage personalized advertising in Google's ad settings.
Note that if you block strictly necessary cookies, features that require signing in, such as commenting and saving articles, may not work.
