Editorial Standards

Updated June 20, 2026

The Los Angeles Herald is an independent, local-first daily covering Los Angeles and California first, alongside full national and world news. We want to be a trustworthy, clear and fair source for our readers. These standards describe how we work and what we are committed to.

Impartiality

We report the news without taking sides. On contested matters we present the main viewpoints fairly and attribute them to their sources, and we keep reporting separate from analysis and opinion. Our aim is to give readers the verified facts and the context to make up their own minds.

Independence

Our newsroom makes editorial decisions independently. Coverage is not set on the terms of advertisers or outside parties. The Service may carry advertising (for example, through the Google ad network), but it does not influence the content of our stories and is clearly marked separate from editorial content.

Sourcing and verification

We aim to base our stories on reliable sources and to verify the facts before publishing. We are open about what our reporting is based on, and we try to give the relevant parties a chance to respond. We keep news and opinion clearly separate.

Our stories are our own work

Our stories, from headline to text, are the original work of our newsroom. We use tools to support our work, but the newsroom is always responsible for what we publish and for its accuracy.

Images and licenses

The images we use are mostly freely licensed (for example, Wikimedia Commons). Each image's author, license, and source are noted alongside the story. We respect photographers' rights and correct incomplete source information when it is brought to our attention.

Errors and corrections

Mistakes happen, and we correct them openly. If you spot a factual error in a story, let us know through our contact form. We correct factual errors without delay and flag significant corrections clearly.

Comments

Reader comments are welcome. We expect civil discussion, and we remove unlawful or abusive content. The full rules are in our Terms of Use.

Tips and contact

We get story ideas from readers, too. You can send a news tip in confidence or share feedback. We treat our sources' information confidentially.
