Mexico arrests the man it says ordered the killings of a mayor and an influencer

  • Mexican federal forces arrested Ramon Angel Alvarez Ayala, known as El R-1, in Jalisco on Friday.
  • Officials describe him as the head of Los Rs, a cell tied to the Jalisco New Generation Cartel, and say he ordered and financed the assassination of Uruapan Mayor Carlos Manzo and, at his son's request, the killing of the influencer Valeria Marquez.
  • He has not been charged in either case.
