A game the Dodgers seemed to have in hand turned into a four-hour test of nerves, and they passed it at the very end. Dalton Rushing's single in the bottom of the 11th inning brought home Teoscar Hernández to give Los Angeles an 8-7 win over the Colorado Rockies, Yahoo Sports reported.

Ohtani stakes the lead

Shohei Ohtani did the early damage. He homered in the third inning, his 19th of the season, and drove in four runs on the night as the Dodgers built a 6-1 cushion through the middle innings, Yahoo Sports reported. For a while it looked like it would be a comfortable evening.

The Rockies claw back

Colorado had other ideas. Trailing by five, the Rockies chipped away and then broke through in the ninth. Kyle Karros doubled home a run, and with two outs Cole Carrigg laced a two-run double to left-center to tie the game and force extra innings, Yahoo Sports reported.

A pivotal review at the plate

The tension peaked in the 10th, on a play at home plate involving Colorado's Hunter Goodman that hinged on replay. The Dodgers won a pivotal challenge on the sequence, one of several video reviews that shaped the extra innings, the Los Angeles Times reported. The reviews slowed the game to a crawl but kept the Dodgers within reach.

Rushing ends it

In the 11th, Rushing settled it, dropping his single in to score Hernández and send the home crowd out into the night with a win. It was a scrappy, imperfect victory rather than a tidy one, but for a Dodgers team that let a comfortable lead slip away, escaping with the result was what mattered.
