A discarded Falcon 9 stage is due to hit the moon on Wednesday

  • The upper stage that carried two commercial landers to the moon in January 2025 never came home.
  • It has been drifting ever since, and the tracking analyst Bill Gray calculates it will hit the near side of the moon in the early hours of Wednesday at about 5,400 mph, digging a crater roughly 90 feet across.
  • Two orbiters will be watching, and one of them passes within a couple of miles of the rocket two minutes before impact.
