California rejected nearly 150,000 mail ballots in the June primary

  • State data show 148,241 mail ballots were thrown out in the June 2026 primary, a 1.73 percent rejection rate that is up from 2024 and 2022.
  • Most were rejected as postmarked too late to count; more than 52,000 were tossed over signature problems.
  • Voting advocates are calling the rise a concern that needs investigating.
