Daytime television's establishment and one ambitious newcomer split the spotlight as the 2026 Daytime Emmy nominations were announced. "The Young and the Restless" led all shows with 18 nominations, extending its long reign atop the genre, while the freshman soap "Beyond the Gates" announced itself with roughly 15 nods in its very first year of eligibility.

The drama race

Behind "The Young and the Restless," the daytime drama field is stocked with familiar names. "General Hospital" earned 13 nominations, followed by "Days of Our Lives" and "The Bold and the Beautiful." That "Beyond the Gates" could crowd into that company so quickly, second only to "The Young and the Restless" in its debut year, is the storyline animating this year's race, and a rare bright spot for a broadcast form often written off as fading.

Among the acting nominees, "General Hospital" performers including Steve Burton, Eva LaRue and Jeff Kober were recognized, alongside nods for the show's writing and directing.

Talk and beyond

The daytime chatter categories drew their usual heavyweights. "The View" and "Live with Kelly and Mark" both landed Outstanding Daytime Talk Series nominations, with "The View's" panel, Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, Ana Navarro and Alyssa Farah Griffin, competing in the host category. Personality-driven staples such as Kelly Clarkson and Drew Barrymore also figured across the awards' many categories, which range from culinary and lifestyle programming to courtroom and entertainment-news shows.

When and where

The 53rd Daytime Emmy Awards will be handed out on Friday, October 30, at the Hollywood Palladium in Los Angeles. The ceremony caps a nominations slate that, between a decades-old leader and a surging first-year contender, suggests daytime television still has some life, and some drama, left in it.
