Flying to Japan This Summer? Fuel Surcharges Are Near Record Highs Even as Fuel Gets Cheaper

Japan's two big airlines are charging some of their highest-ever fuel surcharges this summer — roughly ¥65,000, about $400, each way on U.S.
routes — even though jet fuel has gotten cheaper.
The reason is a pricing formula that lags the market and a historically weak yen.
