A reported break-in in the Hollywood Hills set off a police chase across the city's Westside on Wednesday evening that ended in a collision and a car fire, and with three people in custody, authorities said.
What happened
The sequence began around 5:50 p.m. with a reported burglary in the 1600 block of Sunset Plaza Drive, in the hills above the Sunset Strip, NBC Los Angeles reported. Officers located a vehicle linked to the report and gave chase. The pursuit ended several miles south when the fleeing vehicle collided with another car near the intersection of Third Street and Robertson Boulevard, on the edge of the Beverly Grove neighborhood. At least one of the vehicles caught fire, CBS Los Angeles reported.
Three in custody
Three suspects were taken into custody at the scene, according to the stations. Their names have not been released, and none has been charged as of publication; under the law they are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty. Accounts of injuries varied in early reporting, but authorities said no one was transported to a hospital.
What's still unclear
Several details remained unconfirmed late Wednesday, including what was taken in the reported burglary, whether anyone was inside the second vehicle involved in the crash, and the exact route and duration of the pursuit. The Los Angeles Police Department had not released a formal statement at publication. This is a developing story, and the Herald will update it as officials confirm additional details.
